"Just Trust Me"

“Do not be afraid.  Just trust me.”
Mark 5:36

Jesus said this to Jairus, a man whose daughter had just been pronounced dead.  Jesus could look this devastated man in the face and confidently, and calmly say do not be afraid, only believe.  Jesus believed in the power He had and He knew what He was capable of doing with the power given to Him by God. He knew that Jairus had the ability to trust Him and that with his focus on God and strong faith, Jairus could put his fear aside.

Would you ever ask a 2 year old to make supper for a family of five?  Of course not!  In this same way God would never command us to fear not knowing we weren't capable of doing so.  And notice in the scripture above Jesus is not asking Jairus to trust Him, He is commanding Jairus to trust.  Throughout our whole lives God understands the temptations and difficulties we endure, yet he plainly states, “Do not fear.  Just trust me”.  He knows our capabilities, He knows us better than we know ourselves.  He knows that by the power of His love for us we are capable of so much more than we could ever dream of.

Often we get stuck in our natural world with thoughts that only our human minds can imagine.  When this happens we will most likely always be defeated.  We will lose out on blessings made just for us. We will get stuck trying to manipulate the situation or fix the problem and our focus will only be on the issue at hand rather than the promise of hope clearly spoken to us by God through His word.  Only when we close our eyes and shut off our human way of thinking and let ourselves be swept away by God’s grace and power will we be able to truly believe in infinitely more than we could possibly dream.  When we can hand over our mess and let God be our child’s doctor, our husband’s healer, our friend’s counselor or our personal assistant we will be able to rest and just trust in Him.  We can see His work being done and we can wait until He is finished.  Our vision stays positive when we do not fear.

God has great and marvelous gifts for us.  He has amazing miracles in store!  The things that society would have us never believe in, He says that’s all possible.  Jairus was a real man living in a real world with a real family and a real job just like us.  His daughter was brought back to life because he trusted a man named Jesus to heal her.  He had faith in His God.....Our God!  Next time you are faced with something so hard and all you can see is what your human mind can imagine try and give those thoughts to God and do it His way.  Do not be afraid.  Just trust Him.
