The Lord is near to all who call on Him. Psalm 145:18
After living in our newly remodeled house just over a year, our yard still had much work to be one to make it look full and lush. The grass had come in so patchy. As I looked out the upstairs window, I was discouraged at how badly it looked. There where so many bare spots. As I mowed later that day I began to think about how God could choose to see us from His view above and notice all the problem areas we need to take care of in our lives. But instead, He’s right here with us where the patches are less noticeable and more manageable. As I mowed I could not see the patches all at once, and the yard didn’t seem so overwhelming. I’m thankful that God doesn’t sit in an ivory tower looking down on us in discouragement and dismay, but rather that He’s in the midst loving us and solving one problem in us at a time.
Do you feel lonely or discouraged? Does fear seem to overwhelm your heart at times? Are you battling doubt or bitterness? God longs to walk this challenge with you. Call upon him in a simple, honest prayer and claim his closeness. The Lord your God loves you, and will draw near to you upon your asking!
But don’t stop there! My husband is awesome at caring for our lawn. He mows weekly. He fertilizes and sprays for weeds. He even digs out the weeds and replants in the bare spots. In the same way, you must nurture your relationship with Christ. Spend time in the word daily. Spend time talking, asking, listening, and praising. Then take time to confess your sins and replant those areas with His Truth! Oh, and don’t forget to laugh! God has a great sense of humor!
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. James 4:8
God did this so that people would seek him. Then perhaps they would reach out for him and find him. They would find him even though he is not far from any of us. Acts 17:27
