Slow to Anger

We've all said it, "He/She makes me so angry." Someone's behavior instantly sends us over the edge. Perhaps we didn't expect them to behave the way they did. Maybe their words were intended to be unkind and hurt us deeply. It may even be that after repeated offenses we just don't know where to turn. But there is a reason James says, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry." (James 1:19) The reason is this… we need to slow down and remember that we are not fighting against a person. Our issue is not with the one who is inflicting the pain. Our issue isn't with the one who stands before us. We need to be slow to anger so that the Spirit has time to remind us who our real enemy is- the enemy of our soul. Satan works through people. He uses them as pawns to do his dirty work. And when we respond in anger, we are doing the dirty work of the very enemy. So, today, begin praying about your anger. Where is it targeted? Who is receiving your ugly venom in thought or deed? Allow the Spirit to search you and soften your heart to the beautifully created person that is acting ugly. Allow the Spirit to change your perspective time and time again until it becomes your normal; slow to anger!

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:10
