Like the Eagle

"but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint."
    Isaiah 40:31

All over the world, eagles are symbols of power, freedom and the ability to go above usual circumstances. The female's wingspan can range from 6-8 feet! They are the top of the food chain which means they do not fear predators. Their vision is at least 4 times sharper than that of a human. But here is the one fact I just can't get over… Eagles love storms. When the winds of a storm begin to brew, eagles get excited. They will use the lifting power of the storms winds to raise themselves above the storm. They use the winds of the storm to propel themselves beyond where they are, all the while giving their wings a rest!

I found that eagles are referred to 30 times in the NIV Bible. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when we place our hope in the Lord our strength will be renewed like that of the eagle. When the storms of life come, and yes, they do come, we are to rest in the Lord; we are to wait upon him to act. But it is an active waiting. Unlike many birds, the eagles don't nest in the storm.  They get out and get busy. So we too, must get up, go out and get busy with the Lord's work while the storms of life rage around us. When the storm winds blow, we must dig deeper into the Word of God, and allow him to strengthen us even as the storm rages on!
