Righteousness

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for My righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6

This verse caught my eye the other day.  I read it and wanted to know more about His righteousness.  Righteousness, in this scripture, means morally right.  It is an important theological concept in Christianity, an attribute that implies that a person’s actions are justified, and can have the connotation that the person has been “judged” or “reckoned” as leading a life that is pleasing to God (Wikipedia).  Righteous living is described by Wikipedia as good, upstanding, ethical, high-minded, law-abiding, honorable, blameless, saintly and pure.  So Christ’s righteousness means that He is morally right and that He trusts that He will be vindicated by the Lord God. Christ’s righteousness is shown through the many characteristics that make Him so perfect and lovable. His righteous living makes Him stand out and should draw us to want to be like Him.  To say that we thirst for His righteousness is to say that we want to be morally right like Jesus Christ.  It states that we know that Jesus Christ has been accepted as blameless and we too want that for our lives. It further shows that we hunger for upright living, we strive for a high-minded, law-abiding life where we are honorable in all things, blameless and saintly.

Yes, Jesus was perfect!  Friends, does that mean we can be perfect?  I don’t know the exact answer to that but I have to believe when we are living our lives to be like Christ and we are doing everything we possibly can to live within His will, we are blameless in Gods eyes.  Repenting of our sins and giving over our will to live the life God has for us is the proof of our hunger.

Yes, it all sounds so great but is it that easy?  Jesus says it is.  Jesus says that all we have to do is hunger and thirst for His righteousness and we will be filled.  We just have to want to be like Christ and put forth effort and live in a way that proves our hearts are true and pure.  Memorize this verse.  Ponder the meaning of righteousness.  Look up what it means for yourself and look up scripture that speaks of it.  Really focus in on what God wants you to know about it and come back tomorrow for a deeper dive into this verse.
