Hold On To His Promises

I have a friend who seems to get the same scripture whenever she begins to doubt her circumstances or when her circumstances seem to take a turn for worse.  God is always faithful to give her this scripture that promises He is doing something new......making a way in the wilderness.  Maybe you know exactly what I am talking about.  I am sure some of you have a special verse you cling to in times of trouble. Today I was lead to Hebrews and was reminded of God’s promises to us.  When He makes a promise we can be sure, like our ancestors before us, that He will follow through.  God is not capable of lying.

When god made His promise to Abraham, He backed it to the hilt, putting His own reputation on the line.  He said, “I promise that I’ll bless you with everything I have - bless and bless and bless!”  Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him.  When people make a promise, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they’ll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up.  When God wanted to guarantee His promises, He gave His word, a rock-solid guarantee - God can’t break His word.  And because His word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.  We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.
Hebrews 6:13-18 Msg

My friends, we can all be sure that the words He reveals to us in scripture and the things He tells us are promises that cannot be broken.  When things get too hard to handle we have to hang on to the promises and believe that they will come in God’s perfect time.  When we lose patience and are ready to throw in the towel we need to call on this scripture that reassures that God Is Who He says He is!  God is the only person we can trust......He is incapable of lying!  God means what He says!  Especially when He repeats it over and over to us.

“And by that same mighty power, He has given us all of His rich and wonderful promises.  He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in His divine nature.”  2 Peter 1:4

“God is not man that He should lie.  He is not a human, hat He should change His mind.  Has He ever spoken and failed to act?  Has He ever promised and not carried it through?”  Numbers 24:19
