Try Something New

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.  The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
Psalm 19:7

About a month ago I had a conversation with a friend who was going through a tough time.  Without giving you all the details of her affairs I will say that she was down in the dumps.  She was dealing with a loss of a friend. That friend just up and left her without any explanation and it was me that she was confiding in, this time around.  I say that because this wasn’t the first time that she had experienced this scenario with the same person in her life.  In fact, it was a repeat offense from just months earlier. My advice for her was simple.  I suggested that, this time around, she handle her situation differently.  In the past she let herself get so down.  She never understood her worth in God’s eyes, therefore, when she was let down she felt like she was the problem.  This blog isn’t about her problem so I will leave the details of that conversation to come to my reason for writing.  Sometimes, when we have handled a situation the same way for years and getting the same results, at some point we need to change the way we do things.  For this particular friend of mine I suggested she get into her bible and get to know God on a deeper level.  I suggested that she try something different.

The instructions of the Lord.......His Word......The Bible, they revive the soul!  When we are dealing with things that are breaking us down physically and mentally His word is there to revive us.  If you aren’t faithfully reading your bible and you are dealing with an issue that seems to stick around or repeat itself over and over my suggestion is you try dealing with your problem differently.  I want you to read the bible.  Not just a scripture here or there but really read the bible.  Search for answers to your problem.  Search for promises that will heal your soul and give you hope for tomorrow.  His word is 100% trustworthy and reading it will make you wise.  Aside from gaining knowledge of who God is and the love He has for you, you will gain wisdom to help you handle any situation thrown your way.  You will gain confidence to face tough circumstances.  You will learn patience and self control along with so many other godly characteristics.  Your problem may not go away over night or even within months but you will have been revived.  You will be able to withstand your problem.  You will learn trust and therefore, believe in God’s healing and saving power.  God’s peace will flood your soul and you will be able to praise Him in every circumstance.  Your outlook will change and you will be stronger than ever before.

Dear God, draw us closer to You this day.  With the business of Christmas fast approaching help us to manage our time wisely, that we would go to Your Word and learn from You.  Father, You revive us and give us the strength to keep going in a world of quitters and short cuts.  We want to know You better and we want to be wise in Your Word.  Please teach us the things that are most important in life and show us Your perspective.  We desire to consult with You, learning a new way to handle our circumstances.  Thank You for Your guidance and Your devotion to us.  Thank You for Your instructions!
 Amen and Amen

The unfolding of Your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple.
