A scripture I ran across today reminded me of God’s law and how he is the same today as He was yesterday. The laws written in the Bible are commands for yesterday and today. The things God expected of His people, He expects from us. Yes, times change, people change, and technology changes but God does not. Thousands of years ago God gave Moses The Ten Commandments. Moses shared those with the Israelites as they were roaming the wilderness in search of The Promise Land. Even though times have changed His law stands firm.
The bible holds many instructions throughout the Old and New Testaments. Some of those are very descriptive and indicative to the culture of that time but the principles behind every law God set forth still lies before us Christians today.
Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God The Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow
James 1:17
Have you ever been reading the bible and thought what you read was harsh or a hard task to follow? Have you ever blown that particular instruction off thinking to yourself that doesn’t really pertain to me. That was something they did way back then. God surely doesn’t expect that of me today. After all, times have changed and I am sure God wouldn’t mind if I had sex before marriage.....I really love this person and well, we do plan on getting married soon. Or, maybe all of this homosexuality, and gay marriage has become such a popular topic you think to yourself that maybe it’s not such a big deal after all. Many years ago God laid the foundation for us to follow as christians. God is the Word and the Word stands today!
Satan is so good at getting us to compromise over some of these issues. So often we catch ourselves making small compromises that end up changing who we are and what we stand for. With God there is no gray area! The laws that were set thousands of years ago were set with us in mind! That is what is so amazing about the bible and Our God! He is the same today and yesterday. The issues that people struggled with “back then” are issues we can relate to today. Hence the bible is living, it is alive for us to use still today! The translations my change but the bible and its principles and instructions live on forever.
Heaven and earth will disappear but My words will remain forever.
Mark 13:31
God doesn’t look down on earth and say, “My people are struggling with divorce, they can’t seem to stay married so I will change my mind and allow it. I will not punish those who take their vows lightly.” Absolutely not! God will not change His mind just because times change and we as a society are getting lazy. A person cannot set their foundation of morals and beliefs on a changing world. A person must make that decision based on something that will stand forever. Christians choose to stand on the Rock. We have an immoveable foundation that we can stand on and not be subject to the changing styles or the newest fad.
For who is God except The Lord? Who but our God is solid rock?
2 Samuel 22:32
A rock is something hard, strong and reliable. A large rock is immoveable. Our God is Big! Our God is immoveable and He does not shift. It is so comforting to know that we are standing on a foundation that lasts throughout eternity! We cannot fail when we are living by the principles that God laid before us so many years ago!
God, The one and only - I’ll wait as long as He says. Everything I hope for comes from Him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, an impregnable castle: I’m set for life.
Psalm 62:6 Msg
Thank you God! You are our one constant in a world of change. We know that we can go to you and find answers to our hardest circumstances and temptations. You understand us and you long for us to follow your principles. Help us today to put all of Your laws into practice. There is nothing you need from us but our love and belief but from You, Lord, we need everything. Your Word is music to our ears! Your word is life and direction to our souls. Lead us to the Rock where we can rest all the days of our lives! In Jesus Name, Amen!
