Prince of Peace

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.  And the government will rest on His shoulders.  These will be His royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

Many years later, when our Prince of Peace was due to arrive, angels appeared to shepherds in the fields outside the village where Jesus was born.  The shepherds were frightened and the angels surrounded them exclaiming:
Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on the earth to all who God favors.”
Luke 2:14

On that very first night, when Jesus was born, the 3rd gift of Christmas was proclaimed to the world.  The baby Jesus would bring peace to those whom God favors.......those who would believe and accept His son as their Savior.  Aside from love and joy, Jesus was coming into the world to open the way for the people to have peace with God, and peace of mind.  Sin was unavoidable and a part of everyone’s life.  Jesus was sent to be the last sacrifice for all people and make it possible for us to approach God.  Jesus brought us to a place of highest privilege in God’s sight.  We would be reconciled with God and there would be no more sin blocking our relationship with Him.

Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1

Jesus also brought with Him, spiritual peace, better known as, peace of mind.  It isn’t the peace that we think of between two countries, nor the cute peace signs on clothing in a certain girly clothing store.  Peace that comes from Christ is something different.  Spiritual peace is having the knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress (Wikepedia).  Peace that comes from Christ is more than just an absence of conflict.  God’s gift of peace is protection and it comes from our faith and trust in Jesus, our savior.

“I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart.
The peace I give isn’t like the peace the world gives.  So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
John 14:27

Peace doesn’t necessarily mean that your life will be perfect without problems.  Peace from God is confident assurance, in the heat of those problems, that you will come out blessed.  It is having faith that no matter what situation arises you will overcome.  When we have faith in God and believe that our prayers are heard and answered then peace follows.  When we believe that God is in complete control of our circumstance, peace is our gift.  Peace is our promise of shelter during the storm.  We can wait in peace when we are confident that our Prince of Peace will save the relationship, renew the soul, protect the child, or heal the sickness.  God’s gift of peace takes the worry away from those things that are out of our control and replaces it with confidence and hope.

Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need. and thank Him for all He’s done.  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you life in Christ Jesus.
Philippeans 4:6-7

So let God’s peace guard your heart.  Trust Him to protect you and let His peace fill you will confidence.  I challenge you to go to your bible and search for people, like Paul, who had amazing faith.  Read about them and the peace they had in the scariest of situations.  That same peace is yours!  Have faith in your Prince of Peace, trust that God will protect you and help you through.  Remember the peace that was given to you the day Jesus Christ was born, and own it!

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.  Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.  But take heart because I have overcome the world.
John 17:33
