No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.
Ephesians 2:10
Jesus died on the cross to give us eternal salvation in heaven. We don’t have to do anything accept believe. Just by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior we are given a room in heaven. What we do on earth does not help us get to the front of the line, it does not give us front row seats and it doesn’t save us a room with a view. Jesus Christ paid for our one and only way into heaven and God is the gatekeeper! A one way ticket with a price so high no one in the world could afford it. Thank you Jesus!
Doing God’s work won’t help us get to heaven nor will it help us get on God’s good side. We shouldn’t be doing good things on earth to get noticed. The only reason we should be doing anything good is because we are made in Christ’s image and as believers we have Christ living in us. We should be doing good because once we are a christian it is only natural to join in the work of God. We should see things differently when we have Christ in us. We should see hurting people and hurt. We should see people in need and give them the shirt off our back. We should see hungry people and feed them. We should see people in trouble and help them, people in prison and love them. Those who are sick we should be visiting and the homeless we should be leading to shelter. The thirsty should be coming to us for a drink. (Matt. 25:35-36) . So many people and situations are calling on us to help. God has arranged work for us to do. It’s time to get doing!
Dear God,
I love you and thank you for giving me the promise of eternal life. I was made for special work not of this world but a Godly work that brings hope and love to a fallen world. Reveal to me the job you have ready for me. Because you have chosen me, I am prepared, and I want to start working! Give me wisdom to discern your voice and the confidence to obey. Praise God, amen and amen!
